Lily Hong 康子妮 began playing piano at the age of 5; advancing to a A.R.C.T. diploma graduate in piano performance from The Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, Canada at the age of 16; and finally graduating from The University of Toronto with a degree in piano performance. During her time at the University of Toronto, her teachers include Daryl Irvine, Boris Lysenko, Larysa Kuzmenko and she was the accompanist of the choir at the university music faculty.During her time in Canada, she gained 8 years of piano teaching experience and was a church pianist and an accompanist for 10 years. In 1999, she won the Song Writing Award and Best Interpretation Award from the English Song-Writers Quest for a Multi-Cultural Canada. After returning to Hong Kong in 2000, she was an artiste for Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB). She also taught at the Naxos Music Centre owned by Nishizaki Takako (西崎崇子) during the years of 2000-2002. Lily started working as a freelance musician in 2006, singing chorus, playing the flute and keyboard in Canton pop concerts for singers like: Ekin Cheng, Joey Yung, Yik Wong, Grasshopper, Fiona Fung, Mimi Lo, Miriam Yeung and the Brotherhood of Men (歲月友情演唱會) .
She started working as a piano music arranger shortly after she left TVB in 2007. Her published music and piano solos include; “Classic Children’s Songs”, “My Favorite Christmas Songs”, “Back to my Childhood” [回到小時候], “Music Collection from the Studio Ghibli” [吉卜力動畫音樂集]，”My Favorite Pop Piano Solos”, etc and many more sheet music. In 2014, she published 3 volumes of the Disney Piano Solos for the Disney 90th Anniversary Piano Competition and she was also the one of the adjudicator for the event. Lily is currently the piano arranger and adjudicator for the Hong Kong Student Open Music Competition (Pop Class).
Lily has recently started to write original sound track music for movies and musicals. In Jun 2019, she and her musical partner Veronica Lee (Award winner of the 34th Hong Kong Film Award for Best Original Film Score) have worked on the music for the movie “Suk Suk” which had five nominations from the Golden Horse Award. Lily and Veronica also formed a band named “Arm Charm” in 2018 which they had been performing their original and covered songs in shows and within the movies.
